Open markdown link in new window?

I love how DEVONthink has settings (“General” page, “Interface” tab) to control whether clicking links always opens them externally, and to allow double clicking to open groups in a new window and documents externally as well. What I find myself missing increasingly is the ability to tailor similar behavior for Markdown links.

Yes, I know I can hold down the Ctrl key and click (or just right click) to get a popup menu that lets me open the link in a new tab. Yes, I also know I can middle click the link with a suitable mouse to open it in a new tab in a single operation. And if I choose to Ctrl/right click and select “Open Link in DEVONthink 3”, then I get the resulting Markdown document in a new window. But it’s a two-step process, and I have to remember every time.

Is there any way to customize the defaults for Markdown links as with other sorts of links? In particular, I tend to copy a lot of page links from PDF files so that in my Markdown notes I can easily pull up the precise page with the documentation I want. It would be nice if double clicking would open automatically in a new window or if I could set DEVONthink to open always in a new window and not a tab or something like that. Thanks in advance if I’ve overlooked something!
